
An American citizen originally from South London, Matt Davis is a staff writer at The Lens, a non-profit news site focusing on New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He lives in Mid-City with his cat Mrs. Robinson and is inspired by scrappy, ambitious, energetic people.
On top of his day job Davis has freelanced all over the place and co-edited an eating and shopping guide since arriving in New Orleans. Freelance highlights include work for The Guardian, People Magazine, Agence France Presse, Salon.com, TheAwl.com, The Times-Picayune, The Independent, and Time Out London.
Davis has a photographic and banking background and rose from unpaid intern to news editor of alternative weekly paper The Portland Mercury in Oregon between 2006 and 2010. He co-wrote the upcoming documentary Alien Boy, about the death of James Chasse, a man with schizophrenia, at the hands of the Portland Police Bureau in 2006.
