Much of what inspires me about Brixton was experienced on Saturday afternoon at the Bush Man Kitchen Caribbean Kiosk. This container of barbecue chicken with rice and peas, coleslaw and a mixture of sauces was £3.50, and a can of Ting to wash it down with was 80p. It fed two, poetically.
The term “bush man” is often read and written negatively but we were treated to a Bush Man spoken-word performance by this gentleman, associated with the kitchen, about half way through eating. There was all the reclamation of pejorative rhetoric you’d expect, stocks and all.

Tell ‘em what they’ve won, Bully…
