One of the great parts of working for The Lens, a nonprofit, is its partnership with Fox8 News. When we research and break a story, like this piece yesterday about the sheriff building new jail beds, Fox8 is there with a camera to bring the story to its viewers. And then, the next day, there’s a morning show, to discuss the story in a bit more depth. In return, Fox8 donates the use of some of their news room to The Lens, for office space. It’s a productive partnership and one that I’m enjoying being part of:

Great reporting, Matt, thank you. You’ve got a pretty damn quick learning curve from your initial story regarding opposition to this Inhumane Jail Machine.
No offense, but I still say that you really need to spend a night in OPP –as a customer– to get a bead on the machinery involved here. I suggest this with all due respect and Not as a jab at your reporting.
Get yourself arrested taking pictures, misdemeanor, don’t go inside there as a journalist with a camera doing a story. Wear the orange jumpsuit. This won’t be easy, but it will give you actionable insight.
It is a Hell of Kafka proportions.
Whether you do this or not, you’re still doing a fine job of staying on top of this vital story.
Please keep it up.
Go Lens!
look at you, talking head. well done. i see a future in television for you.
Thanks for focusing on this critical issue Mat!
Good job defining issues and raising important concerns.
Glad you’re in town!

Nice idea for the NPO insertion into MSM, the intellectual capacity for investigative reporting. The NPO just needs to stay neutral on the platform (whether it’s a commercial TV station or a college newspaper) and recruit, manage and bring the talent. Why not just outsource the news?
