Extra, Extra…

This week’s Mercury news section has something for everyone…especially you.

DROPPING THE BALL: A delay in the implementation of a new payroll system will cost the city $1m a month. Mayor Sam Adams’ office is supposedly responsible for the delay, but denies being too distracted over the last three months to pay proper attention. Also: it’s not responsible for the delay. Honest. Scrappers nails the art:

STOP, COLLABORATE AND LISTEN: A Salem house bill to make it legal for bicyclists to yield, instead of stop, at STOP signs, will go back to the drawing board for amendments, hence the best headline in the entire history of the universe.

PAYBACK TIME: Oregon’s Enron busting Attorney General, John Kroger, is seeking to take control of policing illegal harassment by debt collectors. We catch up with a few citizens who’ve been harassed. Juicy!

I also wrote a column about Major League Soccer. Bottom line: All the team names sound like candy bars, it’s a stupid idea, and I hate it. I’ll be clawing my way back up to the high ground, next week.

Enjoy.

STOP, COLLABORATE AND LISTEN: How about a law that says really good drivers (we know who we are…) can yield at stop signs also.
